The Summit

The Mount Barker Summit looks over the valleys toward Adelaide in one direction, and the Murray River and Coorong in the other. A special place to the indigenous Permangk people, the summit is home to a myriad of plants and birds. Drive over to the main street of Nairne, through Littlehampton toward Murray Bridge, and turn right onto Bartlett Street opposite the Chapmans Factory. From here, follow the signs to the summit.

The road up to the summit car park is of dirt, but in good condition. From the car park it is a short walk to a picnic ground, and from there about 10 minutes walk up to the top of the mountain where splendid views will take your breath away. You can take a more strenuous walk back down via a trail, but wear good walking shoes. The summit is a must-see for all visitors to Nairne and is open from morning to early evening. Remember to bring your camera!!
