What to See & Do in Mannum

Mannum is proud of its Historic importance to the Murraylands. The town offers visitors a wide variety of water focused activities and special events - and there's good fishing here, too, after you arrive with line and bait! Bird watchers have lots of feathered friends to look at, too - from swooping seagulls to pelicans and swans (and a bird sanctuary at the eastern end of town for more of the same).

Landlubbers can relax in the Mary Ann Reserve (named for the first paddle boat). The park with its attractive 'band rotunda' picnic settings has the original pumping engine from the PS Mary Ann as well as a replica of Sturt's Whaleboat.

The Mannum Dock Museum

Located on the banks of the River Murray, the museum incorporates the Paddle Steamer Marion, the historic Randell Dry Dock and the nationally accredited Mannum Visitor Information Centre. The Paddle Steamer Marion is 105 years old. She has been fully restored and is now operated by a dedicated team of volunteers. Marion has a set schedule throughout the year, details of which are available through the Mannum Information Centre. The Historic Dry Dock is listed on the National Estate and is the only dry dock of its type in the Southern Hemisphere. Captain William Randell at its present site installed the Dock, built originally as a floating dock, in 1876.

Adjacent to the Dock is the Museum building, which also houses the Visitor Information Centre. Museum displays feature the history of the Murray River from the time the area was an inland sea, through to the present time. Displays include Miocene to Murray, featuring fossils and geology of the area, and the story of the original custodians of the area the Ngarrindjeri people, as well as the river trade and major floods. Other features of the Museum are the Theatrette and Early Mannum display and the Arnold Gallery.

Mannum Golf Club  --> http://www.mannumgolfclub.com/

Features a very interesting course with a nine hole layout and land has been purchased to allow the development of a complete eighteen hole course with Par 73 for men and Par 72 for ladies.

Two sets of tees are currently in use and each nine plays differently. Fairways are watered at night so golfers can enjoy an uninterrupted round during playing times.

Mannum has a well-earned reputation as
a challenging course that rewards accuracy. The greens on most holes are compact and approach shots need to be well measured to ensure a putt.

In winter Mannum receives very little rain making it an
ideal place to play when other golf courses are virtually unplayable due to wet conditions.

The course has few bunkers and no water hazards - you will be thankful for this once you deviate from the fairway and experience the rough!

Scenic Lookout

Located at the end of Crawford Crescent above the Bird Sanctuary this lookout offers excellent views over the Murray River and the town.
