What to See & Do in Macclesfield
![]()
Many historical buildings are waiting to be uncovered such as the Three Brothers Arms – one of the oldest hotels in South Australia.
Officially opened at the end of November, the Macclesfield Parklands Walking Trail consists of two walks, the 'Night Paddock' and the 'Angus River' trails.
The Night Paddock trail is a 30-minute loop, which trails past the creek. The Angus River walk is of a similar length and makes its way through the ‘Lord Robinson Parkland’ which connects to the ‘Kangowirranilla’ trail and the ‘Gummy Track’.
Establishing the walking trails involved the erection of two kilometres of creek fencing, nine gates, creating parking areas and re-vegetating the area. Walking across paddocks, through scrub area and natural vegetation at Macclesfield, you can't help but enjoy the peace and quiet of the area.
Also in the area is the Macclesfield Historic Walk. The historic walk includes 39 places of interest for visitors to admire as they make their way through the small country town. Beginning near Davenport Square, the trail winds its way across playing fields, towards the town’s school and through the main street. Places of interest
include the Macclesfield Institute, which was opened in 1881 and St John’s Church which was built in 1926 using local marble. Both of these buildings have been well-maintained and continue to convey the town’s historic feel.
Walking trail maps are available from the Macclesfield IGA and local tourism information centres.
Macclesfield is also home to a number of mountain bike trails as well as scenic drives.
